Exercise: The Best and the Cheapest Anxiety Reliever

Exercise lowers your risk of suffering from diseases.

Anxiety is a condition which has become so prevalent these days.  Those people who are living with unhealthy lifestyle are prone to suffer from it. This is why doctors and health gurus often advice their patients to observe healthy lifestyle habits. Healthy lifestyle cannot be complete without an exercise regimen. The benefits of exercise go beyond what your naked eyes can see. Exercise has been proven to do wonders in relieving one from anxiety.  The following are the reasons why exercise helps relieve anxiety:

Exercise lowers your risk of suffering from diseases.

When a person exercises regularly, he will become more conscious about his overall health.  This will lead him to become even more fit and healthy.  Exercise is not an ultimate cure to any disease.  However, regular exercise allows you to burn calories, lower cholesterol levels, improve blood circulation and promote oxygen flow to the vital organs of the body. Thus, exercise can no doubt reduce your risk of suffering from any disease.  If you already have a pre existing disease, exercise also helps in alleviating its symptoms. It also helps in preventing any disease from becoming serious.

Exercise improves an individual’s mood.

When a person is in a state of anxiety his levels of cortisol and adrenaline increase.  However, through exercise the person will be able to lower down the levels of these stress hormones.  In addition, it is through exercise that endorphins are released which serve as natural painkillers. This is the reason why the person will have a better mood and will feel a lot better after exercising.

Exercise promotes restful sleep.

Sleep is crucial to a person who is constantly battling with anxiety. Inability to sleep will keep the fight or flight response continuously working. As a result, the person will also suffer from persistent anxiety.  But, with daily exercise an individual can have restful sleep every night.  A restful sleep enables the brain to recharge.  It is also through restful sleep that the body can completely replenish his lost energy. Thus, he will less likely to experience anxiety the next day.

Exercise boosts self-esteem.

Anxiety often occurs when a person lacks self-esteem.  And, physical looks can undeniably affect one’s self – esteem. However, with regular exercise the person will be able to improve his body image. Once he realizes that he looks fit and healthy, he becomes confident about the way he looks. As the cliché goes, “Looking good makes you feel good”. Therefore, he will less likely to experience anxiety especially when dealing with other people.

Exercise opens opportunities for enjoyment.

It does not matter what kind of exercise you choose.  What matters most is that you find a real sense of enjoyment while exercising.  It is when a person takes the time to have fun while exercising that he will be relieved from the symptoms of anxiety. If you go for early morning walks as your means of exercising, don’t forget to smile. If you choose to indulge in sports, do not hesitate to make friends. Socializing is one good antidote for anxious people who tend to prefer being secluded.

Exercise preoccupies your mind with positive thoughts.

It is inevitable for a person’s mind to become preoccupied while exercising.  His mind will be filled with thoughts on how to perform each exercise properly. Add to that his thoughts on how he can further improve his health. The person will also feel better the moment he realizes that he is taking positive steps each day to relieve his anxiety. With all these in mind, no doubt anxiety will cease to plague him.

An individual may indulge in any type of exercise as an essential part of anxiety treatment.  Make sure to consult your physician first if you have a pre existing medical condition. Exercise must be accompanied with other practices that promote healthy lifestyle. This is to ensure that you will experience enormous relief from anxiety.
